How to Dial Contacts in Outlook
To setup click-to-dial from outlook:
First you will need to install an application call SIP TAPI. Download SIP TAPI from our tools section Click here
Unzip the SIP TAPI downloaded package.
- After downloading the "deploy" folder from the above link, you will find two versions of the siptapi.tsp file. The 32-bit version is located in the folder "deploy\Win32\Release". Alternatively the 64-bit version can be found in "deploy\x64\Release". If you are using 64-bit windows (newer computers) you will us the 64-bit siptapi.tsp found in the "deploy\Win32\Release" folder. Copy the siptapi.tsp file into your Windows system32 directory (usually C:\Windows\System32) as well as the "C:\Windows\SysWow64" directory.
note: On 32-bit Windows installation you will only need to copy your file to the system32 directory.
- Then go to control panel > phone and modem > Advanced tab and install SIP TAPI as a new provider by clicking “ADD” (see image below)
- Once SIP TAPI is added, click the “Configure” button to enter the account details for your SIP desk phone (see image below). Keep in mind that SIP TAPI will cause the PBX to dial your phone, and then connect the party you are calling once you pick up. When entering your SIP credentials, the following parameters refer to the SIP phone that you want to use. The information you need in these five fields will be provided to you.
SIP domain
Outbound Proxy
Username
Password
User's extension
-
Save the configuration and now test your SIP TAPI installation by using the Windows dialer program (simply enter dialer.exe into the Start button command line – see image below). When you enter a number in the dialer application, your SIP desk phone should ring. Once you answer the call, the PBX will use a SIP REFER message to connect your session with the number that you dialed.
note: if this test fails, it is most likely because the configuration information is wrong or mistyped. Please double check the configuration in control panel > phone and modem > advanced > SIPTAPI and verify the configuration is correct. If so, please contact All Tel Networks for assistance.
-
Once you have confirmed that SIP TAPI is working with Windows dialer, fire up Microsoft Outlook (or restart it if it’s already running). Right click on any contact and select the “Call” option. In the dialog window, click “Dialing Options” and select SIP TAPI from the available choices. Next, click “Start Call” and you now know how to use click to call from Microsoft Outlook with the SquibitUC SNAPmobile.
IF YOU RUN INTO ERRORS AT STEP 5, there is a registry edit that will fix errors with the TAPI functionality. I have to post a disclaimer as editing the registry can have unintended implications.
Do not use a registry editor to edit the registry directly unless you are experienced with the registry. The registry editors bypass the standard safeguards provided by administrative tools. These safeguards prevent you from entering conflicting settings or settings that are likely to degrade performance or damage your system. Editing the registry directly can have serious, unexpected consequences that can prevent the system from starting and require that you reinstall Windows.
Open the registry editor. Drill down to:
[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\Call Integration]
If the "Call Integration key does not exist, create it. Then create a DWORD "TAPIOVERRIDE" with a decimal value of "1". The image below illustrates the key and DWORD with the correct value.
